  • Is it worth getting carpets cleaned professionally?

    Carpets get dirty gradually. So slowly that sometimes we don’t notice it until we move furniture, or a visitor points it out. By the time you can see the soiling the carpet has already been damaged as that soiling is crushed into the fibres underfoot every time you walk on it. 


    Carpet cleaning needs 3 main things. 

    • Good Chemistry eg. Cleaning products. 
    • High heat to melt body oils from fibres (side note: boiling water does not and cannot damage carpet). 
    • High suction to remove the soils suspended in the detergent and rinse water. Poor suction leaves too much dirt in the carpet and residue from detergents can be sticky and make more dirt stick to the carpet causing more damage.

    Generally, carpet cleaners have different packages depending on the type of fibre eg. Wool or the level of soiling or cleaning that is required. Standard packages for low-level soiling start at about $50 per room and can go up to $80 per room for the deluxe.

  • How much does it cost to clean 2 rooms of carpet?

    To clean 2 rooms of carpet, it is generally our minimum service fee of $150. Keep in mind this price includes our travel to the property, unrolling fresh water, solution and suction hoses. 


    We also take the time to inspect the carpet for any possible pre-existing issues. We then pre-spray your carpet, clean and extract.

  • How much does it cost to get carpets cleaned in a 3 bedroom house?

    The cost to get carpets cleaned in a 3 bedroom house can depend on a variety of factors including:

    • Whether the property has a carpeted lounge room or lounge/dining and carpeted hallway.
    • Is the property single story, or a 2-storey home?
    • Does it have carpeted stairs and landing?

    Each of these areas needs to be incorporated into the cost of carpet cleaning for your home. 

  • How often should carpet be cleaned?

    It really depends on the amount of traffic and the area/environment the property is in. 


    It is recommended by the manufacturer to have the carpets professional steam cleaned every 12 months. This is actually part of your new carpet warranty. Not having them cleaned can void your 25-year warranty so always keep the receipts.  


    Generally, when homes have children or pets we recommend cleaning the carpet every 6 months as more foot traffic (especially barefoot) comes from kids and pets. Also, the potential for accidents and food spills is higher or more frequent.

  • Is professional carpet cleaning better than doing it yourself?

    Yes, professional carpet cleaning is better than doing it yourself, for a number of reasons.


    Firstly, professionals use truck-mounted steam cleaning machines worth $30,000-$40,000. Truck-mounted machines are expensive because they do such a great job. In comparison to store hire machines, the difference is chalk and cheese.


    Truckmounts deliver 95C+ at the wand whereas hire machines only use water that comes from your tap. Once you bucket it in, it loses heat and while waiting it cools down to lukewarm which isn’t much better than cold water. The hire machines have very low suction in comparison to truck mounts. Portables are between 120-180 cfm whereas truckmounts generally have 300 to 400 cfm. This is why carpets cleaned with truckmounts dry in hours as opposed to portable which can take days - as well as leave a smell. Hire machines also use a process where you spray the product and then rinse water in the same hit leaving residue in the carpet. Truckmount steam cleaning requires a pre-spray to be applied and the clean or neutralising water is used to extract dirt and any residue.


    Professional carpet cleaners also have training in the fibres, chemistry and science behind carpet cleaning. It’s not as simple as you might think. For example, wool can only have products used on it with a pH of between 4.5 and 8.5. What pH is your product?
